From his "Politics" link:

Campaign Finance Reform:
"I believe that campaign finance is a very tough issue, with good points on both sides; but I feel, as a wealthy American, that I should have no more say than even the least fortunate American citizen. Free speech in politics is about the voices of all those who support you, not who supports you with the biggest voice."

The first sentence basically is an admission he doesn't know WTF to do about it... What makes no sense is that the latest attempt at CFR, McCain-Feingold actually ended up silencing more little voices, and gave the big money a better place to hide, in the 527s.

Military Funding:
"I am a huge supporter of the military. I have always thought of them as our guardians, and when our guardians are making less than the poverty line, and children are suffering because their parents decided to join the military, well, I get very upset. I feel that instead of sending billions to the Pentagon's pet projects, it should go to the troops."

While I agree that troops need more money, better retirement, etc., these "pet projects" are usually about better weaponry, better armor, better intel, etc., all designed to fight wars better and keep our troops alive longer. Guess he'd rather the military be rich dead guys.

Stem Cell Research:
"I'd met Chris Reeve several times before he died, and after having met him it is tough to be against [stem cell research]. I am for human knowledge and expansion of human life. If stem cells are one way to do that, I cannot support legislation to restrict this potentially life-saving research."

While I don't like deforestation of the rain forests, I don't like the dumb reason most people spout for not burning them: "We don't know whats there! We could be killing off the cure for cancer and not know it!" or some such crap... Well stem cell research is basically the same thing. The miracle of stem cells is only a theory. A very provacative one, sure, but just theory. We have yet to regenerate one nerve cell, or viable cell of any type from one. And, btw, the current administration isn't against stem cell research, just against federal government funding of it. Private companies, state-run research universities, etc., etc., are free to spend their billions on it... its just not going to be paid for by you and me right now. But who's really gonna benefit in the end? Big pharmaceutical companies that develop and market the treatments that come from it. Why the hell shouldn't they pay for it in the first place?

So I take it, Mikey, that you won't be voting for Walken, eh?

:P

Personally, I think all actors gone politics are only seeing themselves in terms of the Big Picture. How does this affect me, what will I get out of this? Its a bandwagon here, bandwagon there thing, in regards their issues.

I simply like Walken as a mediocre actor! How can he be any worse than the other politicians that we've had over the years? Or any other actor in office?

And Mikey, you should know better than to bring up any bait about deforestation-- you know damn well how much information I have first-hand on that subject. ;)

Yeah, since you, yourself are such an environmentally friendly guy! ATVs <cough> Motorcross bikes <cough, cough>.

You remind me of another left-of-center kinda guy who railed against tax cuts... until he got his tax bill. Then he said, literally, "Well, they should tax everyone else but me!"
