Considering a server switch to Illidan.

Postby Apotheosis on Wed May 11, 2005 10:40 pm

Hello Blood Legion. I'm a big fan of your raid movies, and I'm considering a server switch from Warsong to Illidan. My reasons are numerous and fairly complicated -- the simplest explanation is that the co-leaders of my Guild were dating, and now they aren't. So I haven't been kicked out of anything or alienated on the server, I've simply lost my group of friends and I'm looking for a place that may be a bit more competitive. So I came here.

My question regards your class recruitment; the page says that you are looking for Druids and Shamans. I might consider playing a Druid, but I already have played the Shaman class to 60 and I'm not sure I can stomach leveling the same class again. While all of the other six classes may not be wanted, I'm sure there are some classes that are PARTICULARLY glutted -- and I'd like to avoid those if possible. My main interests were Holy/Disc Undead Priest and Hunter in particular, with Druid a distant third (I have a level 60 Shaman and Paladin. Not sure I want to keep being a hybrid healer >_<).

I recognize that recruitment is quite selective at this point, and I recognize that tailoring my play specifically to please Blood Legion is probably not an intelligent choice. Really, I just want to make sure that Holy/Disc Priest or Hunter is not a terrible, we-have-zillions-so-you'll-never-get-in type of choice, before I begin to level them. If they are, let me know.

Thanks in advance!

As you would imagine, it'd be hard to give you a concrete answer as by the time you hit the cap our needs may entirely change.

Anyway, if you're very much bent on doing this, talk to ZXtreme or Aries.

That's what I expected; time to decide between keeping what I have and accepting a mediocre server or leveling ANOTHER character to join a better one. Either way, thanks for the replies >_<.

Decision made -- I am now a level 13 Tauren Druid on the Illidan server. I want to emphasize that I'm aware that this doesn't mean I will get into this guild: I just want to give myself the best opportunity to do so. I'm in the process of installing a new mobo on my main PC, so I probably will be around sporadically for the next week or so. But after that I expect to level the Druid in earnest. I look forward to seeing you all around :)

If you need help with any of the lower level instances up to SM, I can walk you through on my shaman. You can find me on either char to ask me for help if you want...

Thruth be told, we recruited our last druid in to the app guild according to the leaders. If he gets in, it would be by fluke that you would get in.

Although I must say, you are quite articulate and if you're anything like you are here in game, I'm deifnately into playing with you sometime when you hit 60.

Blasphemy -- Thank you for the offer, I will almost certainly take you up on it when the time comes.

Kreik -- Looking forward to seeing you in game. I try to be as effective AND as nice as I can while I play: friends and competition are both important to me here. I think that's the advantage of MMOs over FPS games, personally, and it'd be a shame not to take advantage of it.

Remorsecode: Yep, I'm aware that your needs now may not necessarily be the same by the time I reach 60 -- in fact, it appears your needs have already been filled. All I can do is play as well as I can, be outgoing and friendly, and hope. Whatever happens, glad to be on the server. I'm very impressed with your team's intelligent play and friendly demeanor.

Apoth,

Not to get you down or anything bro but I would make some friends. Druid is without a doubt the hardest class to level. We have close to no DPS and are practicly useless from what I see in PvE. However endgame we hit the top of the list in usefullness as PvE is instancing which is in a group and we have a far more important role then doing DPS we are kinda like the glue that holds the group together. When the group makes mistakes we fix it. We have many ways to do so such as innervate and combat rez. When leveling I teamed up with a rogue and leveled fairly fast I suggest you do something simular.

This isnt entirely true. For pure leveling speed, I'd like to reccomend a spec shakah showed me, and I tried out with some success.

Feral Combat Mastery
Primal Fury Rank 5
Improved Demoralizing Roar Rank 5
Improved Bash Rank 2
Sharpened Claws Rank 5
Feral Charge Rank 1
Thick Hide Rank 5
Faerie Fire (Bear) Rank 1
Ferocity Rank 5
Feral Combat Total: 29

Restoration Mastery
Gift of Nature Rank 1
Nature's Swiftness Rank 1
Improved Rejuvenation Rank 5
Furor Rank 5
Improved Mark of the Wild Rank 5
Nature's Focus Rank 5
Restoration Total:

Obviously, this is a bear spec. The goal behind it is to get a decent amount of +crit, and fight 3+ mobs at once. Swipe counts as three separate attacks... and those three attacks each have a chance to crit, gaining 5 rage in the process. At around 20% crit rate, you'll be generating more rage than you can use. Bear form w/tons of rage, swipe, and thorns on several mobs at once is about the highest dps a druid can push out.

As a plus, with this spec and two sets of gear, you're set for both tanking and healing any instance runs you're a part of.

The downsides are a weaker caster form and cat form. Having no innervate, balance, or cat talents will hurt.. so I wouldnt reccomend using this after you're done grinding those levels.

Verbim makes a good point thats sort of what I did but I went all feral till level 40 then completely switched to full restoration and became a instance healbot. I leveld much faster this way. Many classes like rogue and warrior have no downtime whatsoever other then their heath so it becomes benifital for a druid to group with one of these classes as they can just go all out not worrying about heath while u heal them.

As far as hunter I have no guild position other then my own observations as playing a 60 droud and 60 hunter. However I feel in the current game ballance hunter is an extremely weak class. Most classes have an easy way to defeat them. Not to say a skilled hunter cant do well. Hunters are awesome in mass warfare as they can add some nice ranged dps but everything a hunter can do a mage can do alittle better not to mention AOE. Druid has very weak DPS however they survivability and utility far outweighs the negitives. Once I had my druid at 60 there was never a reason to log my hunter in again. Funny as this sounds when I duel a hunter I often go afk and grab a coke while in bear form and by the time i get back they have no maana and I take them out. Its all a matter of playstyle if you like doing DPS stay far away from druid though especially if you intend on being full restoration like mine you will become very dependant on groups.

I disagree, I LOVE having Drakkar in my group no matter what class make up we are pvping against......the same goes for PvE.

Sucky players give people these misconceptions for alot of classes....its like when MS was nerfed, all the wars were crying that their class sucks, and look at wars now, people just need to learn their characters capabilities.
